Introduction to Ojibwe Language

SUBJECT AREA: SOCIAL STUDIES

Description: This class is for students who want to learn the Ojibwe Language. This is a native language of the Great Lakes region and will count as an elective or world language class. Students in this class will learn the fundamentals of the Ojibwe Language. They will learn how to read and write using the double vowel system. Students will also be introduced to some conversational phrases and some grammar. This class may be offered as a yearlong course and if you plan to take it second or third trimester students must take this class as a prerequisite.

Students will engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.

Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.
Students convey information, concepts and ideas to listeners and readers for a variety of purposes.

Students demonstrate and understanding of the relationship between the perspectives and practices . Of cultures studied and use this knowledge to interact effectively in cultural contexts.
Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the perspectives and products/contributions of the culture studied.
