Writing Right


We will work together on the basics of writing for real life situations and for essays in school. Real life applications we will cover include: job applications, resumes and cover letters, business letters and E-mails, personal letters, banking forms, lists, memos, faxes and messages, schedules and calendars , notes, outlines and reports, signs, classified and online ads.
Students will also read sample writings aloud with the teacher and write similar essays of their own. We will write some essays together as a class or in groups. Types of essays covered will be persuasive, expository or writing to explain, comparison/contrast, narrative and descriptive, and how-to writing.


We will cover:

Writing sentences
Writing paragraphs
Writing narrative, expository, descriptive, persuasive and critical essays
Elements of composition including attention to audience, organization, focus, quality of ideas and purpose
Spelling, grammar and usage
Planning, drafting, revising and proofreading a composition
